AFI Office House is a prototype office building designed to actively use climatic conditions as a design tool for shaping user comfort and reducing energy consumption.

Architectural detailing mitigates adverse environmental effects such as wind gusts, drafts, overheating of the surrounding site, and traffic noise. The atmosphere is shaped not only by form, but also by acoustics (a muted, more intimate lobby; flowing water creating a meditative garden ambiance), material textures, movement (water and its reflections), and lush vegetation. Terraces, balconies, loggias, a garden pergola covered in greenery, and greenhouse-like structures within the lobby form green edges of the building, dissolving the boundary between interior space and the surrounding garden. Differentiated façades enable more individualized interior arrangements, breaking away from the anonymous “corporate” architecture of a uniform glass box.

Hence the name: instead of an “office building,” a “house for work,” where “house” refers to a place designed for people.
