"Nowy Wełnowiec" is a project to revitalize the post-metallurgical area of the city in the northern part of Katowice, with an area of 270,000 sq m. square meters, between Wojciecha Korfantego Avenue and Konduktorska Street. The concept is to create a multifunctional space, most of which will be green areas.
"Nowy Wełnowiec" is intended to show that what happens between the buildings is often more important than the buildings themselves, that the structure of new urban assumptions should finally support life and social contacts and should also meet all environmental requirements related to ecology.
The arrangement of the quarters is an attempt to return to the arrangement of traditional cities, built "once" - i.e. clusters of common, social space, surrounded by buildings. The aim is to create as attractive a space as possible for people to live in, while at the same time constructing high intensity buildings.
