Church in Pionki

The Protection of the Holy Virgin Mary Church was built just outside a planned housing estate on the outskirts of Pionki, at the edge of the Kozienicka Forest. The planned estate for which it was built never came into being because development plans for the Polish defence industry were abandoned. A monumental structure was erected, with its main body, intersected by a light belt, seems to be suspended above the interior of the church. Using what is basically a self-build system, the building has been under construction for more than a quarter of a century now.
