Competition for a development design for The Polonia Centre

The project involved the development of the concept of the main stadium with the accompanying buildings: a multi-functional sports hall and the Sports Support Center along with the area landscaping.

In the project, the historical grandstand building is balanced by greenery and discreet shape differentiation of accompanying buildings, so they do not dominate the historical western grandstand building but harmonize with it. The architecture of all the objects is characterized by corresponding tectonics of facades, with similar rhythms and material solutions, which creates a coherent, harmonious composition. It is composed of vertical construction elements forming openwork structures open to the park; it is enriched with steel elements of grids and blends, enabling penetration and control of the amount of incoming sunlight. The form of the stadium with open corners makes the monumental scale of the facility fit into the cityscape, adapting to the human scale. The interior of the stadium opens to life bustling outside and to the surrounding landscape. The square between the buildings was divided into two zones, the representative in the centre and buffer zone with entries to the parking lot. Thanks to the possibility of the variable arrangement, space can be changed throughout all the year, adapting well to the scenarios of events in the facility.
