Competition for the Grand Egyptian Musuem

Stone blocks – massing slabs – separated by narrow slits, rising from the desert and merging with its surface are hiding immense cultural treasures of ancient Egypt, which have been here for thousands of years.
In the voids – open spaces between structures composed of massive blocks – and around them a number of pathways can be set out to lend an opportunity for individual selection of routes and scenarios, active and illuminating contact with history, art, material culture, great civilizations of the past and their outstanding explorers. Water – so important for Egypt’s civilization processes, pharaohs’ tombs emerging from the sands of the desert, and pyramids are important reference points.
Tension – a play between solid stone components and voids between them, darkness and light seeping inside through narrow cracks have become the main challenge of the design, as they define the architecture of the museum.
