Competition for the Szczecin Maritime Museum

Year2010

The creation of a facility with a distinctive architectural formula in the face of its role in the city space has become one of the main assumptions underlying the design. Yet its implementation must not disregard functional and utility values.  The form - transparent and logical, unambiguous and reflecting the conditions of the neighbourhood - is of foremost significance here. Equally important is the internal structure of the building - reflected in the arrangement of the façade and in its “revealed” internal structural layout.  The architecture is associated with the unpretentiousness and simplicity of port storage and freight forwarding buildings. Delicate, “clean” and transparent cladding to the external walls contrasts with raw large-space interiors of the concrete structural components, lending it a public building character and co-creating a post-industrial expression of seafront boulevard space.
