Competition for the Musical Theatre in Poznan

The attractiveness is hardwired into the soul of musical theatre, and its architecture aims to unlock possibilities for the director, actors and institutions. It also gives the audience the right background for the most intense experience possible. The project is looking for answers on two levels, examining the presence of the building in the city space and creating the backdrop for the show.

Location of the Theater at St. Marcin Street, right next to the imperial district and in the context of the railway area with its historical buildings at the same time, requires a distinctive appearance. The dynamic shape of the building follows the geometric typology of forms and roofs of historical buildings, for which the "unhidden" fly tower is a classic dominant - a sign.

The raw interior of the hall and foyer can be easily adapted to a chosen scenography, absorbing the mood of the staged event. The geometry of the auditorium brings the viewer and the actor closer together and provides space for a community experience. The interior of the foyer, divided "prismatically" with glazed, ploughed courtyards, creates overlapping transparent plans embracing present images of life. The views are directed diagonally and upwards: to the tower of Imperial Castle, to the Academy of Music entrance, and the green valley of the railway track. Their arrangement ensures the interior is open but isolated from the excessive noise and a direct view of the street.
