BGK

The building of BGK, built between 1928 -1931 by the architect Rufolf Świerczyński, together with its original interiors and preserved elements of the equipment is, in many ways, a unique project. As the most outstanding work of the ‘Warsaw school of architecture’ which is a creative synthesis of constructivism and the tradition of classicism. Also, it is appreciated as an unusual, timeless work environment that can be easily adapted to the constantly changing needs and that stands out from modern, regular office spaces. 

BGK combined the most modern technological achievements, trends in design, artistic craftsmanship, architecture and fine arts into one, indivisible whole.  It was an expression of a fascination with both modernity and applied arts, referring to the motives of the national cultural heritage. 

The work of Rudolf Świerczyński has not ‘gotten old’, it still inspires creative exploration and continuation, and is susceptible to adaptations related to the changing/evolving lifestyle and work culture.

The project is based on a detailed analysis of the value of a historic building, its architecture and interior design, which are a unique synthesis of applied and fine arts. It retains all existing, valuable elements of equipment and decor. It also restores the lost magnificence of the monumental ground floor interiors. First of all, their continuity, the sequences of the three main operating theaters and the entrance hall, articulated by the unique tectonics of column partitions, light management, stone details and multi-coloured stuccos.

New interior arrangements, parts that have lost the features of the original design, will in general outline the specific properties and the atmosphere of the building, color codes and formal compositional and material rules. 

The building is to be put back into use on the 100th anniversary of the Bank’s establishment.
